4 /5 Ned’s Eats Detroit: Birrieria El Zacatecano offers both traditional and trendy Mexican dishes. Birria flavored tacos, pizza, ramen, and even hot Cheetos balls can all be found here.
My wife and I began the meal with chips and salsa, which is served with both red and green salsas. The red salsa had a bit of a kick. After that, we ordered chips and queso, birria ramen, hot Cheetos birria balls, and a walking taco. Of these, the birria balls were by far the best, and were my favorite part of the meal. The birria ramen was very cheesy, but enjoyable nonetheless. The chips and queso and the walking taco were standard.
For our entree, we ordered 5 tacos. The ones we got along with my ranking of them are below:
1. Quesabirria (shredded beef)
2. Asada
3. Quesabirria (lamb)
4. Lengua (beef tongue)
5. Al pastor
All of these were legitimately worth getting. The lamb had a gamey taste to it, and the lengua had a texture that took a second to get past.
Lastly, we got both the caramel and regular churros. Of those, I preferred the caramel. Birrieria El Zacatecano is a place I recommend trying, and plan on returning to in the future.
