1 /5 Sindi Novaku: I’ve been a loyal TJ Maxx customer for years, and I have never experienced anything as alarming or unprofessional as my recent interaction with the cashier, Wanda.
I was returning a clothing set purchased four days earlier and placed the receipt directly on the counter. Despite it being right in front of her, Wanda asked in a harsh, impatient tone, “Where is the receipt?” She then yanked the items out of the bag with excessive force and questioned why the TJ Maxx tag wasn’t attached, even though all brand tags were intact. The loose TJ tag was beside the merchandise, and based on how aggressively she handled the items, it is very possible she detached it herself.
When I calmly told her she could look up the item, she snapped,
“She’s doing that — don’t you see it? You’re like—”
and abruptly cut herself off. It was clear she was about to call me something inappropriate before stopping mid-sentence. Her tone and body language were openly hostile, and the entire interaction felt aggressive, confrontational, and unsafe.
When she noticed how uncomfortable I was , she hit her badge behind her back to hide her name, clearly aware of how inappropriate her behavior was.
The manager on duty (a Middle Eastern woman with limited English, name unknown) was also dismissive and offered no support. Her response was simply, “It’s up to you if you want to contact corporate,” providing no accountability or assistance.
This experience raises serious questions about training, oversight, and customer safety at this location.
