4 /5 Alex A: This was our first time trying House of Umami, and overall it was a good experience with some highlights and a few misses. We ordered the bang bang chicken, chicken bao buns, a stir fry ramen bowl, and the katsu chicken rice bowl.
The bang bang chicken was tasty and nicely cooked, though we definitely wished it came with more sauce. The chicken bao buns were felt more like a light cucumber sandwich than a chicken bao, but we ended up stuffing the bang bang chicken into them and made it work. The stir fry ramen bowl had great flavor, but the portion felt pretty small for the price.
On the other hand, the katsu chicken rice bowl was excellent! Generous portion, amazing flavor, and easily the standout dish of the meal. The atmosphere was welcoming, and service was friendly, especially for a first visit. While not everything hit perfectly, there were enough good elements that we’d be open to coming back and trying more of the menu.
