1 /5 Danielle Merkle: We’ve given Rochester Chop House & Bar two chances, and unfortunately, both visits were underwhelming. The best word to describe this restaurant is mediocre.
I’ve tried two different steaks here, and both were surprisingly bland. A properly cooked, well-seasoned steak should not need to be smothered in sauce or covered with salt and pepper at the table. Yet everyone in our group reached for both.
The portion sizes for appetizers and the so-called “shareable” sides were disappointing and small enough that we left still feeling hungry. The bacon "wrapped" shrimp starter isnt even wrapped in bacon, the 3 shrimp just had shredded bits of bacon. Service was similarly lackluster. On our last visit, the waitress asked if I would like a salad with my steak. The way she phrased it made it sound like it was included, only for it to appear as an extra charge on the bill. I do not appreciate being upsold by surprise.
If you are looking for a properly cooked, flavorful steak, skip Rochester Chop House and go to Steakhouse 22 instead. They know how to do it right.
