2 /5 Carly K: I hadnt been to this Platos in a couple years but I was in town today so I figured Id swing by, see what they had, and try to sell some clothes. And let me start by saying, I usually find most people who rate secondhand stores poorly because of their clothes not being bought to be overdramatic. They have to be choosy. But this experience really rubbed me the wrong way.
After I dropped my items off and started browsing, I was reminded of why I never shop here - theres easily three to five feet worth of shirts in size S, another three to four feet of M, maybe two to three feet in size L.... Then maybe a foot of XL, pretty much nothing 2XL or more. In every category. This is such a stark difference to the Muskegon Platos or even East Lansing. Not finding anything, I left and came back later for my clothes.
Of the maybe 20ish things I brought in, they took one, citing "age of label". This was bizarre to me since the one skirt they took was about 4 years old and a good third of what I brought in had been bought in the last year. When I opened my tote, I noticed about half of it was still folded just as I had done it (unless they really took the time to redo the tri-fold on my tees). Incredible. Perfectly good Patagonia, Puma, Underarmor, Fashion Nova, etc not even looked over, maybe because they realized it was mostly XL and 2XL. Coincidentally the skirt they did buy was a size L. Dont waste your time here if youre above a size 8.
Edit to add: I took the exact same tote of clothes to the Platos Closet in East Lansing and they took 15 items for $60. Guess it wasnt all "AOL" or whatever after all.
