1 /5 Bidinger Mark: I recently ordered the fish and chips from Cranks, and I must say that I was deeply disappointed with the quality of the dish. The breading on the fish had an off-putting taste and texture, resembling stale and oily cereal corn flakes.
Upon my first bite, I immediately noticed a lingering staleness that overshadowed any potential enjoyment. The breading seemed like it had been sitting around for far too long, lacking the fresh and crisp coating that is essential to a satisfying fish and chips experience. The texture was unappealing, with a greasy and clumpy consistency that made it difficult to appreciate the flavor of the fish.
The presence of oily cereal corn flakes as a coating was baffling and seemed like a poor choice for such a classic dish. It did not enhance the flavor of the fish but rather detracted from it, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste.
To add to the disappointment, the chips served alongside the fish were also a letdown. They were greasy and lacked the desirable crispiness, appearing limp and undercooked. The combination of the lackluster chips and the subpar breading left me feeling unsatisfied and regretful of my choice.
I believe that the restaurant should be ashamed to serve a dish of such poor quality. Fish and chips is a beloved staple, and it is disheartening to encounter such a disservice to this classic dish.
I forgot to mention, this miserable meal was $17.
