Carbon Athletic Club - Detroit
Denise Schimmoeller: Love the history of Carbon Athletic Club! Many of the men in my family were members the past 60+ years, and I became a proud member myself in November, 2023. It’s a great reason to go back to the neighborhood where my great grandparents (3 sets of them) settled when they came from Poland. I like to sit at the bar and picture them drinking with me!
St. Cecilia Gym - Detroit
Washington D. “D. Boogie”: Offering utility assistance for Detroit residents. (THAW Subsidy)
Royal Oak Gym - Royal Oak
Rita Allerding: Seriously the best environment for serious working out. Been going here since it was Golds Gym back in the 80s .Not cleaned like the old days but price is right and can shower at home...I am there for the hard core atmosphere and dedication to the sport / hobby / PASSION of it all. Use it or lose it approach as I am a senior and want to maintain my muscle mass as long as I am alive and breathing. I do miss the fact that the stair master has been out of commission for ever...used it religiously pre weight training...feel I am missing something without a good aerobic challenge. The trainers are as much or more in your ballpark pertaining to whatever your fitness goals are ...I have yet to use one through my 42 years lifting , but see the results they produce and may very well get on board with doing so. Sincerely, Rita
LA Fitness - Allen Park
LA Fitness
Sab: One star and that’s ONLY because of Skyler. Skyler was kind, helpful, and clearly doing their best in a place that looks and feels like it’s been abandoned by management and respect alike. This LA Fitness is disgusting. Machines are covered in grime. Cupholders have moldy sludge and who-knows-what crusted at the bottom. The wipe stations? Barely a few scattered around the gym, and surprise, no one’s using them. I watched people sweat all over benches, walk away, and go on like it’s normal. Spoiler alert: it’s not. The dumbbell racks are a complete joke, weights thrown everywhere, nothing in order, like toddlers cleaned up blindfolded. No staff addressing it, no signs reminding guests to clean up after themselves, no accountability. It’s not just poor maintenance, it’s flat out unsafe and unhygienic. And let’s talk to the guests real quick: You are grown adults in a shared space. Re-rack your weights. Wipe your equipment. Stop treating the gym like your personal garbage dump. This kind of mess reflects on everyone, not just the staff. The condition of this gym is not just embarrassing, it’s disrespectful to members who actually care about their health and the environment they work out in. Allen Park LA Fitness, do better. And to the members who contribute to this nastiness? Get it together.
Sculpt Pilates - Detroit
Kelle Bynum: Sculpt Pilates is the best Pilates studio in town. I love the aesthetics of this place. The Pilates machine is top tier and smooth. The instructor that I had was simply the best. She was very patient with me as I havent done Pilates in such a long time. I felt welcomed and I got a few shirts that I could use on my future workouts. I will be back again and again to get my summer body together.
Powerhouse Gym Southfield 24/7 - Southfield
Scott: Great gym! The owner Nick is a cool, down to earth guy that will get you where you need to be. Highly recommend this place, you won’t regret it!
Golds Gym Detroit - Warren
Ahmed Anwarullah: Gold’s Gym, under the leadership of the incomparable Mr. Don Larson, is nothing short of iconic—a first-class sanctuary for those serious about transformation. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted by an atmosphere that feels more Venice Beach than Metro Detroit, a testament to Don’s raw, authentic vision. A true gentleman and powerhouse, Don is the last of a golden era—part mentor, part maestro—who has built two immaculate facilities in Warren and Taylor that blend old-school grit with modern accessibility. He lives and breathes the philosophy of “no intimidation,” but make no mistake: this is where wolves train. With a full boxing ring, a youth-focused program, and a culture rooted in real results, Don’s passion has changed lives in ways money can’t measure. Gold’s Gym is more than a place to lift—its a place where character is forged, thanks to a man who leads with integrity and heart. Thank you, Mr. Larson—you’ve impacted me deeply, and I can’t wait to train again.
RTB Gym - Lincoln Park
S F: I came here back when it was The Powerhouse and returned last year for the Halloween discount—RTB Gym is better than ever. It’s clean, the sauna is always hot, and the equipment has everything you need. The owner is friendly and welcoming, but he also makes sure everyone follows the rules, which keeps the gym comfortable and respectful. Never too crowded, great atmosphere to train in. -Sal
LA Fitness - Livonia
LA Fitness
ali tarhini: What happened to the old LA fitness. A series of inconveniences that really have impacted my gym experience have led to this post. Just for context, I have been a member for a little over a year and switch from Crunch (which was a really good gym for the price) only because they lacked a basketball court and swimming pool. Today was the straw that broke that camels back. After my gym session, I left and forgot my gym water bottle. When I got home, I called the gym and the receptionist answered the phone. I asked if she could check to see if the cup was anywhere in the gym (with a specific location of where it was). To which she replied, "Im the only person on staff right now and I cant leave the front desk". Now I get that its not necessarily her job to go out and check, but the receptionists with the exception of one person LITERALLY just sit there with their sippy water bottles and watch TikToks! Pay no attention to whos coming in without any acknowledgment of any of the members with a hello or good morning. Furthermore, the basketball courts are always slippery. The gym equipment is always needing maintenance, they dont take care of their gym equipment. Its just a shame that I pay $35 a month (not counting the annual fee) for sub-par service. Im honestly considering switching to a private gym
DYNO Detroit Climbing - Detroit
DYNO Detroit Climbing
Ann Marie: We had an amazing time at Dyno Detroit! The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and made sure everyone felt safe throughout our visit. They took the time to explain everything clearly, which made the experience even better. Our group had a blast trying out the different climbing routes, and we can’t wait to come back for another adventure. Highly recommend this gym for climbers of all levels!
